Bedroom Shrine
A stained-glass panel in a chapel evoked the dead with the words “IN LOVING MEMORY.” The congregants prayed for their lost loved ones. They remembered those who went before them and sobbed.
The antique stained-glass memorial now hangs in front of a window in my daughter Alix’s bedroom. When I moved houses, I feared her spirit would be left behind. I bought a house with an extra bedroom and brought the contents of Alix’s room with me. She has her own room, and I created a shrine where we connect. When the sun rises, the stained glass lights up, and I feel Alix’s presence.
Have you created shrines or places of connection for those you lost?

I'm so glad bringing her things to the new house opened up your continued relationship with her. It would have been heartbreaking, otherwise.
Alix’s shrine is so lovely, what a precious thing to share with us all, thank you Julie.
Yes, I have shrines dotted around the house. They are my favourite photos of Dom and I make a point of leaving things I’ve found on walks there, feathers, conkers, pine cones as well as flowers I’ve picked. And I light a candle by some of them at special times.
I love how you created a room for Alix when you moved and know that I would want to do the same. And that she told you she’d come with you to your new house. It is so beautiful how she still shines on in it, through that stained glass 🩵
