Memorial Day Reconciliation
The Civil War soldier mourns his dead comrades at the cemetery. He honors those who fought with him and those who shot at him across the battlefield. The caption on the 1910 postcard explains: “FROM THE SILENCE OF SORROWFUL HOURS, THE DESOLATE MOURNERS GO. LOVINGLY LADEN WITH FLOWERS, ALIKE FOR THE FRIEND AND THE FOE: —UNDER THE SOD AND THE DEW, WAITING THE JUDGMENT DAY, UNDER THE ROSES THE BLUE AND UNDER THE LILIES THE GRAY.”
I remember my daughter Alix on Memorial Day. She battled the symptoms of her bipolar disorder and fought stigma. Alix lost her life, but she died a valiant mental health warrior and hero.
Do you remember loved ones on Memorial Day?

My next post is about how bravely Dom fought to stay earth side, just as your beautiful Alix did. Some battles aren’t seen, are they. Thank you for honouring them so beautifully here ❤️❤️❤️
Julie, the poetry on this card is gorgeous and painful, as so many Americans died killing each other. I pray this country never clashes like this again, on Memorial Day and beyond. Thank you for finding such a treasure.
